Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg (Acute Care) position requiring 2 years specialty experience and a GA or compact RN license.
Details
- Acute Care Med/Surg unit with 14 beds
- Patient ratios of 1:6 for both day and night shifts
- Patient population includes diabetic, CHF, COPD, GI bleed, renal failure, dialysis, post-surgical overflow, amputations, debridements, wound care, DVTs, ETOH, and psych cases
- Administers medications including Lasix, Bumex, and Heparin
- Patients monitored on a different unit; nurses not required to read telemetry strips
- Charge nurse role available but does not typically take a patient assignment unless needed
- CNAs staffed at approximately 1:12 ratio and may be pulled for 1:1 sitting assignments
- CPAP used regularly; BiPAP used only at night
- Night shift schedule 7p-7a with every other weekend required
- Rotates schedule with permanent staff
- Floating required to all acute care and cardiac units to support medical or EC overflow patient holds
- Uses MEDITECH EMR
Requirements
- Active RN license (GA or compact) currently in hand
- Required certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIHSS; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of specialty experience required
- At least 1 prior travel assignment required
- Experience in a high-acuity, high-turnover, fast-paced hospital setting required; no Critical Access Hospital (CAH) experience accepted
- Must be comfortable managing 1:6 patient ratios
Additional Information
- Provides primary care nursing with a strong focus on patient satisfaction, quality of care, and patient safety
- Works alongside LPNs and LPN-Cs on the floor
- Strict attendance policy enforced; no bags allowed at the nurses station, though a locker lock is permitted
- Dress code: Caribbean Blue top and bottom, white top with Caribbean Blue bottom, or all white top and bottom
- Nails must be polished only; no artificial or shellac nails permitted due to infection control standards
- Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible for placement
- Not eligible if previously employed directly by the facility within the last 12 months
- First-time travelers may be considered given the 1 prior travel assignment requirement
