Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department offering a 13-week evening assignment, requiring IL licensure and at least 2 years of ED experience.
Details
- Level 1 Trauma Emergency Department in an acute care, teaching hospital setting
- 65-bed unit with all private rooms and 2 dedicated trauma bays
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-5 based on acuity and department needs
- Cares for a wide range of patients from newborns to the elderly, including critical, cardiac, and stroke cases
- Travelers may care for trauma patients once stabilized and transferred from the trauma bay but typically are not assigned as primary trauma bay nurse
- Utilizes EPIC EMR
- 12-hour shifts on an evening schedule (3p-3a)
- Every other weekend rotation required, with weekend days varying by shift
- Holiday coverage required every other holiday or as negotiated in contract
- No on-call or standby requirements
- Rare floating possible as a 'help all' to other units, not as primary team nurse
- Respiratory therapists assist with ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow equipment
- Monitor tech available, though RNs must be able to interpret and act on telemetry rhythms using Phillips monitors
- Radiology staff or transport handle X-ray and CT transport
- Nurses and techs draw labs, with phlebotomy assisting for boarders
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required
- BLS, ACLS, and ENPC or PALS certifications required
- TNCC or TNS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- At least 1 prior travel assignment preferred
- SANE RN experience preferred
- Experience in a teaching hospital environment preferred
- Proficiency with vasopressor, cardiac, and antihypertensive drip titration required
- Must be able to recognize and act on life-threatening cardiac rhythms
Additional Information
- Deliver direct nursing care across a broad spectrum of ED patients, from minor complaints to critically ill and trauma cases
- Work alongside a trauma team, charge nurses, house supervisor, and ED techs (1:9 ratio) for support
- 2 charge nurses per shift manage incoming patients/telemetry and departmental needs, occasionally assisting with trauma or critical patients
- Minimum of 3 attending physicians and mid-levels staffed at all times, varying by shift
- Travelers are scheduled by the scheduling manager rather than self-scheduling, with time-off requests reviewed for approval
- Block scheduling available when possible (e.g., 2 on/4 off or 6 consecutive shifts)
- No specific scrub color required, but tasteful, solid-colored shirts under scrubs expected
- Negative drug screen required for all panels as part of OSF's Drug-Free Campus policy
