Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit role requiring 2+ years of stepdown experience and telemetry proficiency.
Details
- Acute care setting in a Cardiology Stepdown Unit (4A/4B)
- 4A focuses on cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery patients, 4B handles smaller procedures, drips, and CHF patients
- Common diagnoses include POD #1 CABG, cardiovascular surgery, fem pops, arteriograms, CEA, thoracotomy, VATS, EVAR, AAA repairs, carotid endarterectomies, stents, pacemakers, ablations, AICD, CHF, afib with RVR, and chest tubes
- 44-bed unit with average census of 32-38 patients and high turnover, discharging/admitting 12-16 patients per shift on busy days
- Patient ratio of 1 nurse to 5 patients, with nurse aide ratio of 1 to 10
- 12-hour day shifts from 7a-7p
- Every other weekend required
- Must be flexible to work holidays and days surrounding holidays
- Telemetry monitoring using Phillips equipment; must be able to read and interpret strips
- Administers titrated drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine, Lasix, Bumex, Heparin, Primacor, and Vaprosol
- Manages BiPap, CPAP, Vapotherm, and high flow oxygen; no full ventilator management
- Uses MEDITECH EMR
- Float requirement to ICU, limited to stepdown-level patients unless ICU experience is noted on contract
- Floor-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts
- 24/7 in-house hospitalist/intensivist coverage, RT, and pharmacy support
- Dedicated PICC/IV team available
Requirements
- Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
- Current BLS (AHA) and ACLS certifications required
- NIHSS certification required
- 2 years of Stepdown experience in an acute care setting required without exception
- BSN not required
- Preferred ability to pull pacer wires; training provided if not already proficient
- Must be comfortable with floating and potentially tasking in the ICU if not qualified for ICU-level patients
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide stepdown-level cardiac nursing care including monitoring, medication administration, and wound/line management for post-surgical and cardiac patients
- Unit supported by a Charge Nurse (Clinical Supervisor)
- Scrub color required: Caribbean Blue
- Dress code requires natural hair color, no fake nails or shellac, no facial piercings, and no visible tattoos
- Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible for placement
- Previous employment with this health system within the last 12 months disqualifies candidates from placement
- First-time travelers may be considered
