Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Oncology RN for a 13-week assignment requiring 2 years of recent oncology experience and both Kansas/Missouri or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Inpatient oncology unit treating all types of cancer across all phases of care, from work-up through completion of therapy
  • Administers inpatient chemotherapy regimens and provides post-op care for uro-gyn and gyn-onc surgical patients
  • Unit also serves as a step-down neuro overflow area for strokes, head bleeds, and other neurological needs
  • Patient ratio of 1:5
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 6:45am-7:15pm
  • Required to work 8 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling period (combination of Friday/Saturday/Sunday)
  • Holiday shifts and charge RN assignments required as needed per unit
  • Regular floating required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • No on-call requirement
  • Charting system is Epic
  • 456-bed tertiary care hospital
  • Facility is a 5-time Magnet designated, teaching, Level 1 Trauma hospital

Requirements

  • Active RN license - Missouri or compact in hand required, and both Kansas and Missouri or compact license in hand at time of application due to floating requirements
  • BLS certification required; Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of recent oncology experience required, with a full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months and no employment gaps greater than 90 days
  • Previous charge experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Proficiency in IV therapy and infusion skills, including administration of coagulation factors, antifungals, antivirals, blood products, central line care, and port management
  • Experience managing oncologic emergencies including sepsis
  • Skilled in symptom management including altered mental status, dysphagia, edema, nausea/vomiting, and neuropathy
  • Experience with chest tube care, colostomy care, Foley catheter management, isolation and neutropenic precautions, telemetry monitoring/interpretation, and wound care
  • Pain management experience including IV push narcotics, PCA pump management, and transdermal patches
  • Experience with post-surgical care
  • Pending license accepted
  • Two professional references required: one from a supervisor or above and one from a charge RN, both from within the past year

Additional Information

  • Provide direct oncology nursing care across the full spectrum of cancer treatment and recovery
  • Collaborate with care team to manage complex oncologic and post-surgical patients, as well as neuro overflow patients
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Travel experience is not required
  • Local candidates within a 75-mile radius of the facility are not accepted
  • Maximum RTO of 7 days; all time off requests must be finalized at time of application
  • Former BJC or Saint Luke's permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler; previous travelers require an 18-month tenure with a 3-month break in service
