Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a rural hospital requiring at least 18 months of recent telemetry experience and a TX or compact RN license.

Details

• Med/Surg Tele unit (Kurth Tower) in an acute care rural hospital setting
• 25-bed unit with 5-6:1 patient ratios
• Common diagnoses include CHF, diabetes, pneumonia, CKD, and med/surg telemetry cases
• RNs titrate Heparin drips and must be able to read telemetry strips, as tele monitor techs monitor but do not interpret
• Care for patients on CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen therapy
• PCTs present at a 12:1 ratio, with Charge Nurses, House Supervisors, and Nurse Educators available for support
• Uses Paragon charting system, transitioning to EPIC on 10/30/2026
• 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p) on an every-other-weekend rotation
• No block scheduling available; schedule is set by facility management based on need
• Floating required to all med/surg units and possibly PCU for tele holds prior to transfer
• No call or standby requirements

Requirements

• Active TX or Compact RN license required
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, with at least 18 months of recent Med/Surg Tele experience
• Rural hospital experience preferred
• Strong communication and time management skills required
• Must be able to interpret telemetry strips
• Driver's license copy required for consideration

• Work alongside a consistent leadership team, though staff continuity can vary
• Unit and department orientation includes 2 shadow/orientation shifts
• Navy blue scrub color required
• Holiday coverage required
• Candidates must not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
