Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced CVICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring at least 2 years of cardiovascular ICU experience and an active IL RN license.
Details
- Acute care setting in a 20-bed CVICU with all private, monitored rooms
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, or 2:1 depending on patient acuity
- Cares for post open heart surgical patients including CABG, valve repairs, dissections, AAA, vascular and carotid procedures
- Manages cardiac patients with STEMI, NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, severe heart failure, and TAVR procedures
- Provides care for ventilated patients and ICU overflow cases including COVID patients
- Utilizes specialty equipment including IABPs, Impellas, Swan Ganz catheters, ECMO, external and transvenous pacemakers, and CRRT
- Manages PICC, midline, CVC, Swan, and arterial lines (radial and femoral)
- Responsible for titrating multiple drips including dopamine, dobutamine, levophed, epinephrine, neo, vasopressin, cleviprex, propofol, fentanyl, versed, insulin, heparin, and esmolol
- Utilizes EPIC EMR system
- Uses Philips monitoring equipment and is expected to interpret telemetry strips
- 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a)
- Required to work every other weekend (Friday and Saturday for night shift) and every other holiday
- Floating required to all levels of care, expected to take a full patient team
- No call or standby requirements
- Charge nurses and house supervisors available 24/7
- Respiratory therapists available 24/7 for ventilator, CPAP, BPAP, and high flow equipment support
Requirements
- Active IL RN license (or application process initiated) required
- Current BLS (AHA) certification required
- ACLS certification preferred
- CCRN certification a plus
- Minimum 2 years of recent, solid CVICU experience required
- Must be able to work independently with minimal training on unit-specific equipment and patient population
- Strong skills in strip interpretation, clinical assessment, critical thinking, and time management
- Ability to perform well in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
- Experience managing multiple titratable drips required
Additional Information
- Unit specializes in all cardiovascular ICU components except immediate post-op, VAD, and transplant care (training not provided for these)
- Receives multiple EP patients and frequently manages complex, multi-device cases
- Orientation includes 1 day of unit-specific training plus 2 days with a preceptor
- Scrubs are not provided; no specific color required but must be clean and appropriately fitted
- Scheduling priority is given to permanent staff; traveler schedule requests are accommodated when possible but not guaranteed
- Candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility qualify for the local pay rate
- COVID vaccination is not required for consideration
- First-time travelers may be considered if they meet the experience requirements
