Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for an Emergency Department Holding Unit position requiring WV or Compact RN license and a minimum of 2 years of RN experience with 1 year in-specialty.
Details
- Work in the ED Holding Unit of a major teaching hospital and Level IV Trauma Center
- Adult and geriatric patient population
- Patient ratio of 5:1
- Night shift 3x12 hours (7p-7a), weekdays with every other weekend required
- Floating to the main ED required as needed
- No on-call requirements
- Cerner EMR used for charting
- Orientation held every other Thursday
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted for consideration)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience with at least 1 year of in-specialty experience required
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required (AHA-issued)
- CPI certification required
- TNCC certification preferred
- Cerner charting experience required
- MS/Tele, Telemetry, and ER Holding experience preferred
- Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy including accessing ports, blood product administration, peripheral line care, and starting IVs
- Experience with respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP management, high flow nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
- Experience with ventilated patient and tracheostomy care preferred
- Experience managing neurological/psychiatric cases including CVA, seizure disorders, and substance withdrawal
- Experience with Heparin protocols and managing cardiac drips (no titration)
- Minimum 2 Manager or Charge Nurse references from the past 2 years required
Additional Information
- Provide nursing care within the ED Holding Unit, supporting patients awaiting inpatient placement
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1 - March 31) unless medically exempt with documentation
- Covid vaccine not required
- Scrub color requirement: Royal Blue/White for RNs
- Free parking provided for travelers
- Former permanent employees must wait 2 years from last permanent employment date before returning as a traveler
- Current employees of the broader health system (including CAMC, Mon Health, Davis Medical Center, Broaddus Hospital, Webster Memorial Hospital, Grafton City Hospital, Highland-Clarksburg Hospital, and Minnie Hamilton Health System) are not eligible for travel contracts within the system
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility, with case-by-case consideration for those between 75-100 miles at the same rate
- First-time travelers accepted if they have appropriate experience
