Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 18 months of recent experience and NC or compact RN licensure.
Details
- Medical/Surgical Overflow unit within a Level 3 Trauma hospital that is also a Stroke Center of Excellence, Bariatric Center of Excellence, and Chest Pain Center
- Patient population includes chronic disease management, CHF, mental health/addiction services (6-week IV antibiotic courses), COPD, DM, wounds, and geriatric care
- Average daily census of 51 patients
- RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6, acuity dependent, with surge times up to 1:7-8
- CNA to patient ratio of 1:7
- 12-hour night shifts from 1900-0700 on a 6-week schedule cycle
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call requirements
- EPIC EMR used
- Unit equipment includes scales, GBS machine, transfer device, vein finder, EKG, crash cart, telemedicine cart, and doppler
- Travel nurses are prioritized for floating to other nursing units and may float to any facility within the region, including Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH for pediatrics)
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required
- Experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (Cardizem/Amiodarone) required
- Experience caring for patients with tubes/drains required
- IV start skills required
- Experience administering blood products required
- Wound care and dressing change skills required
- At least one professional reference dated within the past year required from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care within a Medical/Surgical Overflow unit supporting a wide range of chronic and acute conditions
- Work alongside a support team including Nurse Manager, Administrative Clinical Supervisor, Clinical Supervisor, staff RNs, CNAs, Clinical Mentor, Rapid Response RN, and House Supervisor
- Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers will work 75% of holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; unmet contracted hours must be added to the end of the contract
- Navy blue scrubs required

- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the travel position
- Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
