Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Med/Surg Tele unit position requiring MS/Tele experience and night shift availability.
Details
- Work on a 30-bed non-cardiac monitored Med/Surg unit specializing in Vascular and Urology patients
- Also receives overflow patients from General Surgery, Women's Specialty, and Medicine
- Patients typically have a length of stay of 1-2 days and are admitted from PACU, ICU transfers, and the ED
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 on both day and night shifts, supported by three ancillary staff per shift
- Care includes dressing changes, wound vac management, and drain care
- Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM-7:30 AM
- Weekend coverage required, typically every other weekend but may vary based on need
- Floating required to other units and campuses based on census needs, within demonstrated competencies
- Uses Epic EMR
Requirements
- Active SC or compact RN license required
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- Must pass an EKG exam as part of prestart modules
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience in a Med/Surg Tele unit required
- First-time travelers must have at least 3 years of specialty experience
- Minimum 1 year of experience with Epic EMR required
- MS/Tele experience required for floating purposes
- Some Urology and Vascular nursing experience required
- Skills in IV therapy, wound care, feeding tube management, and isolation precautions required
Additional Information
- Provide direct care for 5-6 non-monitored med-surg patients per shift, including dressing changes and wound vac/drain management
- Supervise and direct support staff on the unit
- Complete annual compliance orientation, held every Monday
- Complete pre-assignment testing and training modules within 48 hours of receiving login credentials
- First-time travelers may be considered with 3+ years of specialty experience
- Travelers must live more than 100 miles from any facility within the health system to qualify for full travel eligibility, with limited exceptions for night shift and certain specialties at reduced distances
- Travelers cannot extend beyond a third consecutive 13-week contract without transitioning to employee status, and must take a six-month break before returning as a traveler if not converting
