Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Float Pool position at a Level I trauma center, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and willingness to float across multiple critical care units.
Details
- ICU Float Pool position within an acute care, Level I trauma hospital
- Floats among Tower 2 (medical/surgical/trauma, 1:2 ratio), Tower 4 (cardiothoracic ICU specializing in lung transplants and ECMO, 1:2 ratio), and 4 Neuro (neuro ICU, 1:2 ratio)
- May also float to MedSurg/Tele units with 1:4 ratio, as well as sister campuses Westgate in Glendale and AZ General in Laveen
- 12-hour day or night shifts (7AM-7:30PM or 7PM-7:30AM)
- Schedule set 4 weeks in advance, may change with 2 weeks notice based on hospital needs
- Requires 4 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) per 4-week period
- Holiday coverage required based on unit needs
- No on-call requirements, though low census may require standby status with a 30-minute response time
- Uses Cerner EMR
- Manages all types of critical care drips and all forms of respiratory support (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, hi-flow)
- Uses GE telemetry monitoring equipment and requires ability to read tele strips
- 2 shifts of orientation provided, with a third shift only if needed
Requirements
- Active AZ state or compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- NIHSS certification preferred but not required
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- Level I trauma center and teaching hospital experience preferred due to high patient acuity and complexity
- Must be a well-rounded ICU nurse capable of functioning independently when floated to other units
- Must be able to read telemetry strips
- Must pass an Advanced Dysrhythmia exam (80% passing score) within 2 attempts prior to contract confirmation
- Must pass a Day 1 SIMs Lab assessment on Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes, maintaining sterile field technique
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as verified by driver's license
Additional Information
- Provides direct patient care across multiple ICU specialties, requiring adaptability to varying patient populations and acuity levels
- Must be willing and able to float without refusal to any assigned unit, including sister campuses
- Completes quality 2-person skin assessments within the first 4 hours of each shift
- All patient reports are completed at the bedside
- Reports to the charge RN on each unit for shift assignment and attends shift huddle
- Must clock in and update department codes with each unit change
- May be required to use a group messaging service (GroupMe) to receive shift assignments 30-60 minutes in advance, or alternatively receive a phone call
- Educational (non-testing) training provided for lifts, restraints, and wound care due to facility-specific equipment and policies
- Candidates who fail the Dysrhythmia exam or SIMs Lab test on the second attempt will be ineligible for 6 months within the CommonSpirit Sacramento and Arizona regions
- Candidates may not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI or Dignity Health) within the past year, though PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable
- Holiday time off must be approved by the manager
- First-time travelers may be considered
