Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele IMC/Stepdown unit, requiring at least 1 year of tele/IMC experience and a heavy cardiac patient background.
Details
- 28-bed acute care Med Surg/IMC/Tele stepdown unit at a Level 2 trauma facility
- Nurse to patient ratios average 1:5-7 during days/PMs and 1:5-7 (up to 7) during NOCs
- Patient population up to 75% cardiac (pre/post cath, pre-CABG, chest pain, NSTEMIs, procedural cardiac) with general medical cases including CHF, COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, dialysis, altered mental status, nephrology, hematology, and wounds, plus overflow stroke patients
- Uses Cerner EMR, currently transitioning to Epic
- 12-hour night shifts from 1900 to 0730
- Every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) and every other holiday required
- Floating required to other Med/Surg floors and occasionally outside the cluster for 1:1 patient observation needs
- No on-call requirement, though staff may be low-census or reallocated in 4-hour blocks
- RNs required to titrate drips including insulin, heparin, nitro, diltiazem, and lasix
- Unit staffed with tele techs for 24/7 monitoring, with on-unit monitors for nurse verification
- Charge RN carries a partial patient assignment while also performing charge duties
- Nurse aide ratios average 1:9 day/PM and 1:14 NOCs when fully staffed
- Respiratory equipment includes continuous CPAP/BiPAP, high flow, vapotherm, nebulizers, and chest PT (no ventilators)
Requirements
- Active WI or compact RN license required
- Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of Tele/IMC/Stepdown RN experience required
- Majority of experience must be in a heavy cardiac care setting
- Drip titration experience required
- Good communication, teamwork, and work ethic required
- Two professional references required: one from a supervisor and one from a peer or supervisor
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care on a high-acuity cardiac and general medical stepdown unit
- No self-scheduling, though block scheduling is accommodated when possible
- Unit orientation includes one 12-hour day off-unit and one 12-hour shift on-unit
- Scrubs may be any color but must be clean and professional
- Previous travel experience preferred
- Candidates living within 80 miles of the facility are considered local with a reduced travel rate
- Former Marshfield employees must have an end date at least 6 months prior to consideration
- All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
