Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a combined Pre-Op/PACU position requiring 2+ years of ER, ICU, or PACU experience and an active CA RN license.
Details
- Combined Pre-Op and PACU unit within Surgical Services
- Night shift, 3x12 hours (1800-0630), Friday through Sunday
- Busy unit with majority of cases scheduled as add-ons
- 12 rooms, 24 beds with average daily census of 35-50 patients
- Patient population includes pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics (primarily adult to geriatric)
- Surgical services include bariatrics, cardiothoracic, general, GYN, GYN-Onc, neuro, spine, ortho, plastics, podiatry, urology, and vascular
- Busy robotic surgery program (6 robots) and active ortho total joint program
- Required to take call 2-3 shifts per month with a 30-60 minute callback requirement unless working an off-shift schedule
- May float within Surgical Services to Pre-Op, Post-Op, outpatient ortho surgery, or same day surgery center
- Uses Omnicell medication dispensing system
- Unit staffed 24/7 and supported by surgical techs
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS
- Minimum 2 years of experience in ER, ICU, or PACU required
- Critical care experience required
- Must have both Pre-Op and PACU experience
- Phase I PACU experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required; no first-time travelers accepted
- Proficient in EPIC charting system
- Skilled in dysrhythmia recognition/management, IV starts, airway assessment, and pain assessment/management
- Able to obtain operative/procedural consent and perform straight urinary catheterization (male and female)
- Level I and Level II Trauma Center experience preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
Additional Information
- Care for surgical patients in both pre-operative and post-operative settings
- All surgical patients are assessed by the pre-op RN
- ICU, open heart, and neurosurgical patients typically recover in ICU unless ICU is at capacity
- May occasionally cover IR, EP, Cath Lab, or CT/MRI patients during off-hours or when recovery area is full
- Royal blue scrubs provided
- Requests for time off are limited to 2 per contract and must be submitted with the initial profile
- No time off permitted within the first two weeks of the assignment
- Travelers expected to work every other holiday, with preference for coverage on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted
- Former facility employees must have been separated for 2+ years to be eligible to return as a traveler
- Only one contract extension allowed; time off equal to the combined length of the original contract and extension must be taken before returning to this facility as a traveler
