Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Telemetry/PCU RN for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring 2+ years of experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • PCU unit with mixed acuity patients (PCU and MS/Tele)
  • Patient ratios of 1:4-5, with possible 1:6 in extreme situations
  • 48-bed unit supported by team lead (3:1), respiratory therapists, and assistant nurse manager on all shifts
  • Patient population includes COPD exacerbations, pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, PE, COVID-19, and flu
  • Cares for chronic trach/vent patients, with no nurse assigned more than one vent patient at a time
  • Utilizes chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, and drips including Dopamine, Cardizem, and Heparin
  • Telemetry monitoring required for many patients with comorbidities
  • Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 6:45 AM-7:15 PM
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating required to like units
  • EPIC EMR used, along with Pyxis and SBAR systems
  • 36-hour schedules may be offered
  • Block scheduling may be accommodated based on unit needs

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification required
  • NIHSS certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of recent relevant RN experience required
  • Experience with IV starts, vents, telemetry, and CPAP/BiPAP required
  • Experience with interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
  • Experience with chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac) preferred
  • Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips preferred
  • IV insulin protocol experience preferred
  • PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care for high-acuity respiratory and cardiac patients within a supportive care team model
  • Unit resources include an Admission/Discharge nurse, Vascular Access Team, RRT, Code Team, and Behavioral Health Team
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be auto-approved, excluding holidays; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
  • All RTO must be pre-approved prior to start; additional RTO cannot be requested after signing
  • Scrubs not provided; must wear white or navy blue
  • 24-hour unit orientation provided, followed by weekly orientation sessions
  • Must complete required pre-start and annual online modules (approx. 8-10 hours for acute care roles)
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted, though a lower rate applies within 50 miles of the facility
  • Travel pairs are permitted provided each member works on a different unit
  • Previous Novant Health or New Hanover employees (PERM/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before reapplying as a traveler
