Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a High Acuity Unit night shift position requiring critical care skills including drip titration and ventilator management.
Details
- Work in the DMCC High Acuity Unit, an 8-bed ICU within an acute care hospital
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2-3
- Patient population includes respiratory failure, post-surgical, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-CVA, post-trauma, and cardiac patients
- Care involves PEG tube feedings, CVC/PICC/Midline management, and tracheostomy care
- Responsible for caring for sedated, ventilated patients and titrating vasopressors, sedation, and pain control drips
- Common titratable drips include Precedex, Propofol, Fentanyl, Versed, Lasix, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levophed, Dopamine, and Cardizem
- 12-hour night shifts from 7pm-7:30am
- Every other weekend required plus additional shifts to fill scheduling gaps
- Holiday rotation required plus additional shifts to fill scheduling gaps
- No call or standby requirement at this time, though subject to change
- May float to Medical-Surgical unit
- EPIC EMR used
- RT staff available in-house 24/7 with vent, CPAP, BiPap, and High Flow equipment management required of RNs
- Hardwired Phillips telemetry monitors centrally monitored by a dedicated telemetry tech
- House Supervisor available 24/7
- No nurse aides or patient care techs on unit; RNs provide primary care
Requirements
- Active IL RN license or confirmation that application process has been initiated
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA)
- Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required
- Critical care/ICU experience required
- Skills in PEG tube care, CVC/PICC/Midline management, tracheostomy care, and ventilator management required
- Experience titrating vasopressors, sedation, and pain control drips required
Additional Information
- Provide direct, hands-on critical care nursing to ICU patients without support from aides or techs
- Classroom orientation per facility policy plus 2 shifts on the unit with a preceptor
- Scrubs only in any color, with only facility-approved t-shirts permitted
- Local candidates are welcome to apply
- Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible for a local rate
- Requested time off must be submitted for consideration
