Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN for a Level 1 Trauma acute care hospital, requiring a CO or compact RN license and telemetry strip reading competency.
Details
- Acute care Med/Surg unit on the 5th floor with 37 beds at a Level 1 Trauma hospital
- Patient population includes stroke, spine, neuro trauma, and general med/surg patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
- Nurse aide ratio of 1:12
- Night shift schedule, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
- Weekend requirement of a minimum of 6 shifts per 6-week schedule
- Holiday coverage required
- Self-scheduling and block scheduling available
- May float to other acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele, with potential to float within the broader hospital zone during extreme need
- Charting completed in EPIC
- Uses Phillips Telemetry monitoring, centrally monitored off the unit
- Moderate oxygen/respiratory therapy needs
- On-call/standby requirements determined by the nurse manager
Requirements
- Active CO state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS (AHA) certification required
- Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience required
- Competency in reading telemetry strips required
- Driver's license copy required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
Additional Information
- Provide acute care nursing to patients with stroke, spine, and neuro trauma diagnoses as well as general med/surg patients
- No charge nurse or house supervisor taking an assignment on this unit
- Titration of drips not required of RNs on this unit
- Unit orientation date and location assigned during orientation week; clinicians should plan to be in-state for orientation even if initial modules are remote
- Navy blue scrub color required
- Hiring process includes a candidate interview with the clinical team; no unit manager interview involved
- Must reside at least 60 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Travelers hired into this float zone are expected to secure housing allowing them to meet float requirements across the zone
- Candidates must not have been directly employed by any facility within the associated health system in the past year, though PRN employment through outside firms is acceptable
- First-time travelers may be considered
