Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a charge relief position requiring 2+ years ER/triage experience and NIHSS certification.
Details
- Acute care setting in a 18-bed Emergency Department including 4 trauma bays, all private rooms
- Not a designated trauma center or stroke center, with interventional Cath Lab available for STEMIs Monday-Friday 8a-5p
- 2 fast track rooms and a triage area available, with traveler eligibility for triage after passing a triage test
- Hold patients are intermixed within the department
- 1 room designated for psych patients, not true seclusion
- Security present with weapon detectors at public entrances
- Approximately 67 patient visits per day
- Nurse to patient ratios of 4:1 and 5:1 depending on area
- Common diagnoses include R/O CP, abdominal/pelvic pain, DM, HTN, COPD, and minor injuries
- RNs expected to titrate drips and manage set rate cardiac gtts
- 1 ED physician on-site 24/7 with a second physician 12p-10p; no mid-levels
- Charge nurses assist with patient care during slower hours or call-ins; House Supervisor available 24/7
- Techs and medics support with rooming, vitals, blood sugar checks, IV starts, blood draws, EKGs, splints, dressing changes, and I/O caths
- RT available 24/7 for breathing treatments, ABGs, BiPAPs, and vents; RNs administer inhalers to hold patients
- Unmanned central cardiac monitors (Nihon Kohden) with RNs responsible for strip interpretation; CICU monitor tech also watches department monitors
- X-ray and CT located adjacent to the department; staff assistance requested for larger patient transport at night
- RNs responsible for phlebotomy along with techs and medics
- Varied shift schedule including 7a-7p, 11a-11p, and 3p-3a shifts, 3x12-hour shifts per week
- Schedule created 4-6 weeks in advance by coordinator or director; no block scheduling
- Weekend rotation every 3rd weekend (Sat/Sun for days, Fri/Sat for nights)
- No on-call requirements
- Routine floating required within the ER, excluding the ER overflow unit
- MEDITECH EMR used
Requirements
- Active RN license (Indiana or Compact) required
- Minimum 2 years of ER/Emergency Department experience required
- Triage experience required
- Current certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), and NIHSS (AHA)
- BSN not required
- Candidates who worked in a permanent capacity at the facility within the last 6 months will not be considered
Additional Information
- This is a charge relief position
- Department includes Emergency Services with varied acuity and trauma bays
- RNs wear navy or royal blue scrubs
- Holiday coverage may be required based on department need
- One 12-hour shift provided for department orientation
- No hall beds used in this department
- First-time travelers may be considered if they meet experience requirements
