Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position requiring a CO or compact RN license and ACLS/BLS certification in a rural acute care hospital setting.

Details

• 14-bed Med/Surg unit in an acute care hospital with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Rural setting with lower resources and typically lower patient volumes
• Common diagnoses include CHF, hypertension, chest pain, COPD, asthma, pneumonia, pancreatitis, bowel obstructions, GI bleeding, and acute renal failure
• RNs titrate drips including analgesics, anticoagulants, and antihypertensives
• No dedicated tele/monitor techs; RNs must read their own telemetry strips and escalate concerns to physicians
• RT equipment on unit includes CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, and ventilators
• Nurse aide support available once the unit reaches 9 patients
• Charge nurse/house supervisor role takes a patient assignment
• 12-hour day shifts using EPIC EMR
• Self-scheduling and block scheduling available
• Minimum of 6 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
• Floating required to any acuity level including ICU (low acuity holds within skillset), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele, as determined by nurse manager and department needs
• Call or standby requirements determined by nurse manager

Requirements

• Active CO or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certification (AHA)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Comfortable reading and interpreting telemetry strips and escalating concerns
• Experience titrating medication drips
• Driver's license copy required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care for a variety of medical and surgical diagnoses in a rural acute care setting
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Holiday coverage required
• Must reside at least 60 miles from the facility
• Float radius policy applies; travelers must secure housing that allows them to float within the hired zone
• Clinicians must be in-state for the week of orientation, even if initial modules are completed remotely
• First-time travelers may be considered
