Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Float Pool RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring 2+ years of experience and a WV or compact RN license.
Details
- Float pool role covering inpatient units based on competency, including ICU, step-down, and medical/surgical
- Patient ratios vary by unit: Med/Surg 1:6, Step-down 1:4/5, ICU 1:2/3
- Patient population includes cardiac, ortho/neuro, surgical, and medical cases depending on unit
- RNs titrate drips in step-down areas only, including Heparin, Cardizem, nitro, cardene, insulin, dobutamine, dopamine, activase, esmolol, lidocaine, lobatelol, primacore, procanimide, agrostat, and verapamil
- Telemetry monitoring available with dedicated monitor techs; CVU reads own strips
- RT equipment includes CPAP and BiPap on all units, with vents in ICU and chronic trach vents on step-down
- Nurse aides/PCTs supported on units with a robust PCT float pool
- 12-hour day shifts, 7am-7:30pm, with every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage required if needed
- No scheduled call, though standby may be required during low census
- Daily unit assignments obtained by calling the staffing office
- Charge nurse coverage is free charge during day shift Monday-Friday, with 24/7 house supervisor support
- Uses EPIC EMR
- 48-hour per week guaranteed schedule
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Med/Surg background required; step-down experience preferred
- BSN not required
- Driver's license with current permanent address required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care across multiple inpatient units based on clinical competency
- 3-4 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation provided
- Royal blue scrub color required
- Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are not eligible for travel rates (100 miles for Princeton Community Hospital)
- Former WVU Medicine travelers must complete a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers cannot work within WVU Medicine facilities for longer than one year without taking a 2-year break
- First-time travelers may be considered for this position
