Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Float RN for a 24-bed adult overflow unit requiring at least 1 year of specialty experience and an active MO or Compact RN license.
Details
- Float position within the Medical Surgical service line at a teaching hospital
- Adult overflow unit servicing multiple admitting physician teams including Neurology, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Cardiology, Orthopedics, and Oncology
- Cares for adult patients 16 and older with diagnoses including diabetes, CHF, COPD, renal disease, orthopedic fractures, and neurological deficits
- Patient ratios of 1:5-7
- Day shift, 3x12 hours, 7:00am-7:30pm
- Every other weekend required
- Mandatory floating to Med/Surg and Tele units
- Performs general floor care including IV therapy, lab draws, nasogastric tube care, wound care, and assists with bedside procedures and conscious sedation
- Charge duties required as needed
- 36 or 48 hour contracts available
Requirements
- Active MO or Compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
- BLS required, ACLS preferred
- Minimum 1 year of experience required in the specialty
- Previous travel experience required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Trauma Level I and II experience preferred
- Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, central line blood draws, PICC line management, and starting/maintaining IVs
- Respiratory skills including BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube care, oxygen administration, and tracheostomy care preferred
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and telemetry preferred
- Wound care/wound vac experience preferred
- Cerner charting experience preferred but not required
- Ability to ambulate, reach, and move objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs
Additional Information
- Works in a 24-hour, 365-day healthcare facility with routine exposure to patients with contagious illnesses
- 50% holiday coverage required on contract
- Rotating shifts and work during inclement weather may be required
- Floating is mandatory, including serving as a Patient Observer/Sitter when needed
- Local candidates residing 51-74 miles from the facility may be offered a local rate
- Candidates residing within 50 miles are not eligible for consideration
- Max RTO of 10 days, with none permitted during the first week due to orientation
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this role
