Description
American Traveler is hiring a Medical Surgical RN for a hospital adult overflow unit requiring at least 1 year of recent med/surg experience and prior travel experience.
Details
- Hospital adult overflow unit serving all admitting physician teams including Neurology, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Cardiology, Orthopedics, and Oncology
- Cares for adult patients 16 and older with diagnoses including diabetes, CHF, COPD, renal disease, orthopedic fractures, and neurological deficits
- Patient ratios of 1:5-7
- Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
- Every other weekend required
- Mandatory floating within the Med/Surg service line, including to Med/Surg/Tele units
- Charge duties as needed
- Performs general floor care including IV therapy, lab draws, nasogastric tube management, wound care, and assisting with bedside procedures and conscious sedation
Requirements
- Active MO or Compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
- BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Medical Surgical nursing required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred
- Cerner charting experience preferred
- Ability to ambulate, reach, and move objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to work in a 24/7 healthcare facility, including rotating shifts, holidays, and inclement weather conditions
Additional Information
- Works in a fast-paced environment supporting hospital throughput for adult medical surgical patients
- Required to cover 50% of holidays occurring during the contract
- Routine contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses
- Local candidates residing within 50 miles are not eligible for consideration
- Candidates residing 51-74 miles away may be offered a local rate
- Local candidates are not eligible for contract extensions beyond the initial assignment
- Maximum of 10 days RTO allowed, none within the first week due to orientation
- Travelers may work up to three consecutive 13-week contracts (up to 9 months) before a mandatory 6-month break is required before returning in an agency capacity
- Re-orientation not required for returning travelers within 18 months
