Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring NE or compact licensure and 2+ years of stepdown experience.
Details
- Acute care Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Stepdown unit with 28 beds
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- Mixed medical/surgical population including cardiac and stroke patients, most arriving through the ER
- RNs titrate drips including Heparin, octreotide, insulin, Cardizem, and nitro
- Charge nurse present each shift, occasionally takes patient assignments
- Nurse aide/PCT support on unit at a 1:14 ratio
- Specialty equipment includes code carts, LUCAS devices, Hoyer lifts, and sit-to-stand lifts
- Tele monitor techs available, but RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry
- 12-hour night shifts (1830-0700) on a 6-week self-scheduling rotation
- Requires 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (Friday/Saturday nights count as weekend days)
- Holiday rotation required alongside permanent staff
- Floating required to Med/Surg and other hospital areas, including ICU/ED based on skill set
- Uses EPIC EMR
- High-flow unit with frequent admissions, transfers, and discharges
Requirements
- Active RN license (Nebraska or Compact/NLC) required at time of submission
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
- Driver's license required for submission to verify residency distance
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care to stepdown-level cardiac, stroke, and mixed medical/surgical patients
- Work as part of a team-oriented unit handling frequent admissions, transfers, and discharges
- Classroom orientation during first week followed by two 12-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation
- Must pass an open-book pass/fail skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%, or contract will be terminated
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
- Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
