Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a Level 1 trauma hospital, requiring 2+ years of recent ICU experience and NE or compact licensure.
Details
- Acute care Med Surg ICU unit with 34 beds in a Level 1 trauma hospital
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1-2 in ICU, 1:4-5 in PCU, and 1:5-6 in Med Surg
- Patient population includes adults and pediatric patients over 15 years old
- Common diagnoses include neuro surgery, respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, general surgery, psych/OD, GI bleeds, and cancer surgeries
- Uses specialized equipment including CVPs, Alines, Swans, EV-1000, ICP monitoring, Zoll Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol, and Bell Mont rapid transfuser
- RNs titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Charge nurse present on each shift who responds to RRTs and Codes
- Patient care techs available at a 1:18 ratio
- Draeger centralized telemetry monitoring with RNs responsible for reading and interpreting strips
- 12-hour night shifts from 1830-0630
- Every other weekend required with holiday coverage of 2 out of 3 major holidays or every other, based on unit needs
- Floats to all inpatient units excluding Maternity/NICU
- EPIC EMR used
- 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
Requirements
- Active RN license (NE State or Compact/NLC) required at time of submission; pending licenses not accepted
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required and must be active; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
- BSN not required for this position
- Driver's license required for submission
- Nursys license verification required
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
Additional Information
- Provide critical care nursing to a fast-paced, high-acuity ICU patient population at a primary tertiary hospital with fluctuating volumes
- Collaborate with attendings, fellows, and resident providers in a team-based care environment
- Successful candidates demonstrate strong critical thinking skills, a positive attitude, and willingness to help colleagues
- Unit interview with nursing leadership required as part of the hiring process
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified via driver's license
- Candidates may not be currently or recently employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity Health
- Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment

I worked 4South/ the people are amazing and flexible, helpful, and supportive to work with. The charges are incredibly helpful.
Cons
Poor communication between residents/ attendings l which affects what is told to nursing and communicated to nursing. This was a huge issue working here. Also the resources are low, things always out of stock on the floor, only one translator / bladder scanner per floor , things like that.
