Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Level 4 Emergency Department position requiring 2+ years of ED experience and a WV or compact RN license.
Details
- 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
- Weekend requirement of every other weekend
- Level 4 trauma center with STEMI receiving capability and telestroke partnership
- 15-bed main ED with a 6-bed Fast Track area and two triage rooms
- Holds are intermixed with ED patients; one dedicated psych/seclusion room
- Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:4, sometimes 1:5 with hall beds
- Average of 95 patients treated per day
- Uses Cerner EMR and Nihon Kohden telemetry monitors
- RNs read their own telemetry strips with no dedicated monitor techs
- RNs draw all labs except type and cross/screen
- Modified self-scheduling system with schedules made 4 weeks in advance
- Night shift schedules typically run in blocks of 3-6 consecutive shifts
- May be required to participate in holiday rotation per A/B schedule
- No floating to other units required
- No on-call or standby requirement for this role
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
- TNCC and NIHSS certifications preferred
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience required
- Prior trauma experience preferred
- Must be comfortable titrating critical drips including norepinephrine, propofol, diltiazem, heparin, epinephrine, midazolam, fentanyl, amiodarone, and phenylephrine
- BSN not required
Additional Information
- Care for patients with chest pain, abdominal pain, shortness of breath, falls, stroke-like symptoms, altered mental status, and back pain, with a predominantly elderly population
- Travelers may be assigned to triage and will triage patients at bedside
- Perform EKGs and administer high flow oxygen via nasal cannula/NRB; call RT to troubleshoot ventilators and BiPAP equipment
- Supported by ED techs who are paramedics performing EKGs, urine POC testing, patient transport, and room stocking
- Charge nurse on each shift may take patient assignments during busy periods
- Security staffed in the building 24/7 with a guard typically at the ED entrance
- Unit orientation consists of 1-3 days with a preceptor
- Navy blue scrub color required
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; no local candidates accepted
- Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within WVU facilities for longer than a year cumulatively without taking a 2-year break
- All candidates interview directly with the unit manager
