Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Orthopedics position requiring NE or compact licensure and prior orthopedic nursing experience.
Details
- Acute care Med/Surg Ortho unit in a Level II trauma facility
- 22-bed unit with an average daily census of 6
- Patient population includes total knee, hip, ankle, and shoulder replacements, and spine (back and neck) surgeries
- Nurse to patient ratio of 1:5-6
- Charge nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment
- Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:13 ratio
- Tele techs monitor and interpret telemetry strips, RNs not required to read their own strips
- 12-hour night shifts (1830-0630)
- Self-scheduling with cyclic rotation
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday rotation required alongside permanent staff
- Floating required to MedSurg, rehab, or PCU units taking MedSurg acuity
- Uses EPIC EMR
- On-call staff must be able to arrive within 30 minutes if called back
Requirements
- Active NE or Compact RN license required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Prior Med/Surg Orthopedics experience required
- Acute care, Level II trauma setting experience preferred
- Driver's license required for submission to verify residency distance
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
Additional Information
- Provide nursing care for orthopedic and spine surgery patients including post-operative monitoring and pain management
- Administer pain medications, antibiotics, and blood products, though drip titration is not required
- Must complete a pass/fail skills exam during orientation, requiring a 90% score to pass
- One day of unit-specific orientation provided
- 24/7 phlebotomy support available on the unit
- Artificial nails are prohibited for all patient-care staff
- Successful candidates are team-oriented, flexible, and willing to take ownership within the department
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver's license
- Candidates may not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
- Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
- First-time travelers may be considered
