Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (Stepdown) position requiring NE or compact licensure, ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certification.
Details
- Acute care Progressive Care Unit (Stepdown) in a Trauma Level 2 hospital
- 40-bed unit with average daily census of 24
- Patient ratios of 1:4-5 on both day and night shifts
- Treats adult patients with cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, respiratory, stroke, post-stent, post-pacer, and renal failure conditions
- RNs required to titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin
- Charge nurse present on each shift and takes a patient assignment
- Nurse aides/techs on unit at a 1:12 ratio
- High flow respiratory equipment used; RNs troubleshoot as needed
- RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips
- EPIC EMR used for charting
- 12-hour night shifts, 0630-1830 and 1830-0630
- Every other weekend required
- Minimum of 2 holidays within the contract timeframe
- Floating required to MedSurg or ICU to care for PCU-acuity patients
- On-call shifts require a 30-minute arrival time if called back in
Requirements
- Active RN license, Nebraska or Compact (NLC), required at time of consideration
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum of 2 years of RN experience required
- Competency with arterial lines required
- Driver's license required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
Additional Information
- Responsible for direct patient care including drip titration, telemetry interpretation, and use of overhead/portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners
- Unit serves a diverse patient population, including a significant Hispanic and Somali community
- Success on this unit requires strong teamwork, flexibility, adaptability, and communication skills
- Unit focuses on improving patient experience scores, responsiveness, and medication communication
- One day of unit-specific orientation provided, plus a pass/fail open-book skills exam during general orientation requiring a 90% score
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified via driver's license
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be requested upfront per 13-week contract; additional RTO requests will not be approved
