Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Tele RN for a night shift inpatient surgical unit requiring 2 years of surgical experience and comfort with 1:6 ratios.
Details
- Inpatient surgical unit combining adult medical surgical and surgical stepdown acuity
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts (6:45 PM-7:15 AM), 4x12 schedule
- 36 or 48-hour contracts accepted, with 13-26 week contract lengths considered
- Patient ratio of 1:6 for surgical/medicine inpatient patients
- Wide range of surgical and trauma diagnoses including appendicitis, cholecystitis, MVAs, gunshot wounds, stabbings, falls, cancers, and bowel obstruction
- Performs or supports procedures such as cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair, TURP, ostomy creation/closure, wound debridement, tumor removal, and amputations
- Utilizes specialized equipment including wound vacs, chest tubes, NG tube/Corpak, JP drains, Hemovac drains, and Penrose drains
- Uses Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR for medication administration, documentation, and communication
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required as needed
- No call requirements
Requirements
- Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of surgical unit experience required
- Must be comfortable with 1:6 patient ratios
- Trauma Level II experience preferred
- Charge RN experience preferred
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Skills in respiratory care (BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, HFNC), IV therapy/phlebotomy, central and PICC line management, wound care/wound vac management, cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia management, and isolation precautions
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care for surgical and trauma inpatients across a combination acuity unit
- Unit orientation includes 2 days of hospital orientation and 24 hours of floor training
- Scrub requirement: all navy, or navy bottoms with white top
- Must complete pre-start and annual online training modules (approximately 8-10 hours for acute care roles)
- May be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty incidents
- RTO up to 7 days can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO permitted during first week of assignment
- Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
- Travel pairs allowed if on different units and disclosed at submission
- Previous Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying, with facility approval required
- Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between travel or per diem status
- First-time travelers will be considered if experienced
- Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a local rate
