Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg-Neuro RN for a day shift position requiring NIHSS certification and recent Med/Surg-Neuro experience.

Details

• 32-bed Medical Surgical-Neuro unit
• Day shift schedule (4x12 hours, 6:30am-7:00pm)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6
• Participates in rapid response team activation
• No on-call requirements
• Floating to like units required, as needed based on facility needs
• Required to work 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week period
• Uses Epic charting system
• 36 or 48 hour schedule options available

Requirements

• Active RN license (NM or Compact) required, pending acceptance must be obtained prior to start
• 1 year of recent experience required
• Current certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• CPI certification preferred
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration
• Central line and PICC line management experience
• Peripheral line care and management skills
• Chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac)
• High flow nasal cannula and other non-invasive airway management skills
• Colostomy/ileostomy and feeding tube management experience
• CVA (cerebrovascular accident) care experience preferred
• Experience with heparin, insulin, and PCA medication administration
• Wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE knowledge
• Pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care experience
• Surgical drain management skills

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive medical-surgical and neurological nursing care to assigned patients
• Receives brief orientation when floating to like units
• Must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for the position
• Former staff members must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
• No more than 3 days of RTO will be auto-approved, with no RTO permitted during the first week of orientation
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply provided they have at least 24 months of nursing experience
• Travel pairs or groups are not accepted for this position
