Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Telemetry Float Pool position requiring 2-3 years of telemetry experience and proficiency with cardiac drips.

Details

• Acute care telemetry float pool position based at a primary facility, floating to a second nearby facility and additional units
• Primary unit is a 31-bed telemetry unit with 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratios
• Float facility unit is a 50-bed combined telemetry/medsurg/DOU unit with ratios of 1:5 medsurg, 1:4 tele, and 1:3 DOU
• Patient population includes pneumonia, end stage renal disease, post cath lab, respiratory distress, CHF, COPD, post surgical, ortho, and cardiac cases
• Uses Cerner EMR
• Uses Philips telemetry monitors with a monitor tech reading strips; RNs must also read and sign off on strips
• Common drips include amiodarone, cardizem, and heparin (non-titrating)
• No ventilator management, though patients may require BiPAP or CPAP
• 12-hour shifts, both day and night options, including 7a-7p and 7p-7a schedules
• Self-scheduling at the float facility, though hours are not guaranteed
• Weekend requirement of 4 weekend shifts within a 4-week schedule
• Required to float to telemetry, medsurg, and ER (for MS/Tele holds) within the facility system
• Charge nurse and resource RN or shift manager present at all times; charge nurse does not take patient assignments
• Nurse aide support available but limited and subject to being pulled
• 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy support available
• In-house hospitalist coverage after hours, shared between the two facilities

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2-3 years of recent telemetry nursing experience required
• Travel nursing experience preferred
• Experience managing cardiac drips required
• Experience with chest tubes preferred
• Must be able to independently read telemetry strips
• Driver's license copy required for consideration

• Primarily primary care nursing model with limited support staff resources
• Floor-specific orientation includes one shift on the home unit and one shift at each additional unit/facility floated to
• Navy scrub color required
• Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor holiday
• Candidates must demonstrate a positive attitude and strong compassion for patient care given high-acuity caseload
