Description
American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Float Pool position requiring 2+ years of MedSurg experience and EPIC proficiency.
Details
- 101-bed Level IV Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center
- Float Pool position covering MS1 General Medical Surgical, MS2 Ortho/Neuro, MS2 Cardiac, and ER Holding/Boarding as needed
- MS1 cares for general medical, surgical, oncology (non-chemo administration), and limited pediatric patients (ages 1+)
- MS2 Ortho/Neuro handles observation, orthopedic surgical, and neurological/stroke cases
- MS2 Cardiac manages post-procedure and general cardiac patients
- Patient ratios are 1:4-6 days and 1:6 nights
- 12-hour night shift schedule, 7p-7a (1845-0715 and 0645-1915 shift variations), 36 hours/week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required throughout the hospital wherever MedSurg patients are located
- EPIC EMR used for charting and communication
- Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing system used
Requirements
- Active WI or compact RN license required
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Proficiency with chest tubes, stable trach management, IV skills, port/central lines, foley insertion/care, and feeding tubes required
- Knowledge of CPAP/BiPAP/Airvo required (RT manages equipment)
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required
- Comfortable managing insulin and heparin/argatroban drips
- Experience titrating Cardizem and amiodarone drips preferred; manager approval required if no experience
- Candidate's middle name/initial, DOB, and last 4 of SSN required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care across multiple Med/Surg specialty units and float to ER Holding/Boarding as needed
- Support staff includes HUC (days only), CNAs, charge nurse, 24/7 RT and Hospitalist coverage, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, and PT/OT/ST on weekdays with limited weekend hours
- Remote tele monitoring available, though nurses may be asked to monitor patients if tele techs are short-staffed
- Orientation includes one full shift for system access and paperwork, plus a 12-hour unit orientation shift
- Scrubs must be a solid, professional color with no graphics, logos, or designs
- Free parking available on-site
- Traveler-friendly culture with a strong teamwork atmosphere
- Holiday coverage expectation of up to 50% of holidays within the contract
- Schedules are built 4-6 weeks in advance and shared 2 weeks prior; block scheduling may be considered but is not guaranteed
- RTO requests require manager approval
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate with no radius restrictions
- Former employees of the health system or its subsidiaries must have been separated for at least 12 months to be eligible
