Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a Level III or higher acute care hospital, requiring an active AL or compact RN license and at least 2 years of critical care experience.
Details
- 176-bed acute care hospital with a 32-bed Emergency Department (up to 40 with hallway beds)
- Combined Adult/Pediatric general Emergency Department
- Common patient conditions include diabetes, hypertension, cardiac issues, and respiratory distress
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a, on a 36/48 schedule
- Weekend rotation of every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month if on a block schedule
- No on-call requirements
- No floating required
- EMR: Cerner
- IV pumps: Plum 360; Medication dispensing: Omnicell; Monitors: Spacelabs
- Charge nurse support available but not included in patient assignment
- Phlebotomy support most days; PICC team available on day shift only
- No dedicated telemetry monitoring tech; RNs required to read/measure tele strips
Requirements
- Active AL or compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and CPI or similar (online accepted)
- TNCC certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of critical care experience (ICU or ED) required for first-time travelers
- Experience in a Level III or higher Emergency Department required
- Cerner or Epic EMR experience required
- Skilled in chest tube, arterial line, and central line care/management
- Experience with trach care, intubation/extubation, and conscious sedation required
- Proficient in IV therapy, nasogastric insertion/management, Foley insertion/management, and splinting
Additional Information
- Perform a wide range of emergency department procedures across adult and pediatric patients
- New hires or those with less than 1 year experience complete 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on the unit
- Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per facility policy
- Scrubs may be any color; t-shirts and hoodies are not permitted
- Parking available in designated areas
- First-time travelers welcome to apply with qualifying experience
- Candidates must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility
- Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being eligible to return as a traveler
