Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring a WA or compact license and prior ED staff RN experience.
Details
- Acute care Emergency Department with 21 beds/trauma bays and a 4-bed fast track area
- Separate triage area staffed by travelers after an initial orientation period
- ER holds are intermixed within the department; inpatient staff float in to help manage admitted patients when needed
- Average of 109 patients per day with a 4:1 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Trauma Level 4 facility treating a mix of patient ages, including 30% over 60 years old, with STEMI and Code Neuro transfers out
- Telemetry monitoring is used in the ED with no dedicated monitor techs; RNs must be able to read cardiac rhythms
- RT manages CPAP/BiPAP and ABGs, while ED staff and RT perform breathing treatments; ER techs and RNs perform ECGs
- CT/X-ray located adjacent to the ED; staff sometimes transport patients
- Nurse-performed blood draws expected, with lab support available for some draws
- 12-hour night shifts with every-other-weekend requirement
- First to float designation applies
- Charge nurse coverage 24/7 and house supervisor coverage 12p-8a Monday-Friday and 24 hours on weekends
- Uses EPIC EMR
- No call or standby requirement
Requirements
- Active WA or Compact RN license required
- BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS (or ENPC), and TNCC certifications required; NRP preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience required
- ED staff RN experience required, including critical drip management
- Driver's license required at time of consideration
- Active certifications must be current; pending certifications not accepted
Additional Information
- Provide direct emergency care across a wide range of patient acuities and diagnoses
- Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
- Unit-specific orientation provided
- Holiday coverage required
- No separate psych/seclusion rooms; in-house security available
- Sitters, CNAs, and ER techs support patient care, with RNs sometimes used as sitters
- Physicians (no mid-levels) staff the department
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
