Description
American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position requiring 2 years of experience and a WV or compact RN license to float across med/surg, step-down, and ICU units.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting within a Med/Surg Tele Float Pool
- Float pool covers all inpatient units based on competency, including ICU, step-down, and medical/surgical
- Patient ratios vary by unit: Med/Surg 1:6, Step-down 1:4-5, ICU 1-2:3
- Patient population includes cardiac, ortho/neuro, surgical, and medical cases varying by unit
- Telemetry monitoring available with dedicated monitor techs; CVU staff read their own strips
- RNs required to titrate drips (e.g., Heparin, Cardizem, nitro, insulin, dobutamine, dopamine) only in step-down areas
- Respiratory equipment includes CPAP/BiPAP across all units, ventilators in ICU, and chronic trach vents in step-down
- Uses EPIC EMR system
- 12-hour day shifts scheduled 7am-7:30pm and 7pm-7:30am
- Every other weekend required
- No standard call requirement, though standby may be required during low census
- Daily assignments determined by calling the staffing office
- Charge nurse coverage provided Monday-Friday days; house supervisor available 24/7
- Nurse aides/PCTs available to support the unit
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certification (AHA)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Med/Surg background required; step-down experience preferred
- Driver's license with current permanent address required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care across multiple inpatient units as part of a float pool team
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 3-4 shifts
- Royal blue scrub color required per dress code
- Holiday coverage required if needed
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; no local travelers accepted
- Returning travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within WVU facilities for more than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
