Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Trauma unit requiring 5 years of experience and Level I/II trauma experience.
Details
- Level I Trauma Center within a Magnet-designated, teaching hospital setting
- Medical Surgical Trauma unit with patient ratios of 1:4-6
- Patients transfer from ED, OR, or ICU and include geriatric trauma, trauma victims (abuse, MVA, MVC, falls), and acute care surgery cases (appendicitis, gallbladders, hernia repairs, fistulas, wounds, burns, TBI)
- Day shift schedule, 3x12 hours (7:00 AM-7:30 PM)
- Can sign for 36 or 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required within service line to meet facility needs
- Uses EPIC charting system
- Utilizes specialized equipment including lifts, restraints, wound vacs, traction, and external fixators
Requirements
- Active MO or compact RN license required (no issuance if tied to another compact state)
- Current BLS and ACLS certification required
- Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
- Level I and Level II Trauma experience required
- EPIC charting experience required
- Must pass Relias EKG exam covering interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Skilled in blood product administration, peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, IV starts, insulin administration, and PCA management
- Experience with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, and ortho trauma required
- Experience with peripheral nerve block catheters and total joint replacements required
- Skilled in surgical drain care, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), and wound care/wound vac
- Respiratory care skills including CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, nasal cannula, oral suctioning, oxygen masks, and portable oxygen tank management
- Isolation precautions and PPE competency required
- Travel RN experience required
- BSN, CPI, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications preferred
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care to trauma, geriatric trauma, and acute care surgery patients transferring from ED, OR, or ICU
- Must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility; local candidates not accepted
- No more than 7 days of RTO allowed per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of the assignment
- Missed shifts should be made up as soon as possible when feasible
- Scrub color required is navy blue
- Charge nurse experience preferred
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Prior permanent employees of BJC or Saint Luke's must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Returning travelers must complete an 18-month tenure limit followed by a 3-month break in service
- Pending license accepted for consideration
