Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment in a rural acute care hospital requiring a CO or compact RN license and 2 years of experience.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit with 14 beds and 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Rural hospital setting with typically lower patient volumes and resources
• Common diagnoses include CHF, hypertension, chest pain work-ups, COPD exacerbations, asthma, pneumonia, pancreatitis, bowel obstructions, GI bleeding, and acute renal failure
• Night shift schedule, 12-hour shifts
• Self-scheduling and block scheduling available
• Minimum of six weekend shifts required per six-week schedule
• Holiday coverage required
• Call or standby requirements determined by nurse manager
• May float to ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, or MS-Tele units based on skillset and department needs
• Required to float within the hired float zone
• RNs titrate drips including analgesics, anticoagulants, and antihypertensives
• No tele/monitor techs on unit; RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips
• RT equipment used includes CPAP, BiPAP, high flow, and ventilators
• Charge nurse role available and may take patient assignments
• Nurse aide support available once unit reaches 9 patients
• Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

• Active CO state or compact (NLC) RN license required, pending licenses not accepted
• Current BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Comfortable independently reading and escalating telemetry strip findings to physicians
• Experience titrating medication drips required
• Driver's license copy required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Must reside at least 60 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Driver's license used to verify permanent address for radius eligibility
• Candidates must secure housing that allows them to meet float zone requirements
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Clinicians must be in-state for orientation week, even if initial training modules are completed remotely
• Unit/department-specific orientation date and location assigned during orientation week
• Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
• First-time travelers may be considered
