Description

American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift RN for a Stepdown/MedSurg unit, requiring EPIC experience and a WV or compact RN license.

Details

• Flex unit serving both medical-surgical floor and stepdown patients based on hospital needs
• 29-bed unit currently under construction, transitioning fully to stepdown-equipped beds in early 2026
• Diverse patient population with primarily medical diagnoses
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 3:1 for stepdown and 6:1 for floor assignments
• Nurse aides (Clinical Associates) typically maintain a 1:10 ratio on the unit
• RNs titrate drips including heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, and opioid PCAs
• Respiratory equipment includes CPAP and BiPAP on floor and stepdown, with HiFlow and vents in stepdown
• Remote telemetry surveillance center and central monitoring available; RNs not required to read their own strips
• Philips telemetry monitoring equipment used
• EPIC EMR used for charting
• 12-hour night shifts with weekend and holiday rotations as scheduled
• Charge RN and House Supervisor coverage available 24/7
• No call or standby requirements
• First to float or be pulled to other floor/stepdown units

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Charge nurse experience preferred for potential charge responsibilities
• Able to manage a patient load of up to 6 (med-surg) or 3 (stepdown)
• BSN not required

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across a flexible medical-surgical and stepdown unit
• Expect to work about half of all facility-recognized holidays
• Scrub colors limited to combinations of royal blue and white
• First-time travelers and new graduates are welcome to apply
• Local candidates not accepted; must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Previous WVU Medicine travelers must complete a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers cannot work within WVU Medicine facilities for longer than one year without taking a required 2-year break
