Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry/IMCU position requiring a CA RN license and 2-3 years of specialty experience in a true telemetry unit.

Details

• Work in the IMCU (2 West), a 38-bed acute care telemetry unit at a Level 2 trauma facility
• Patient ratios of 1 to 3-4
• Common diagnoses include CHF, COPD, renal failure, respiratory failure, alcohol withdrawal, and post-PCI patients
• RNs are not required to titrate drips; common titratable/set-rate drips include DKA, Heparin, Amiodarone, and Cardizem protocols
• Uses GE Apex Telemetry boxes with Central Telemetry Monitoring supported by 2 Monitor Techs; nurses must be able to read and interpret strips
• RT equipment includes BiPap, CPAP, and HFNC; no ventilators on unit
• Cerner EMR used
• 12-hour night shifts, scheduled 6:45pm-7:15am
• Self-scheduling by seniority with shift trades available; no block scheduling
• Weekend requirement of 4 shifts in a 4-week schedule (Fri/Sat nights)
• Float requirement to 4West or Med/Surg departments; travelers are first to float
• No call or standby requirement
• Unit staffed with a Nurse Shift Manager as Team Lead, 2 Resource/Break RNs, and 2-3 Unit Aides

Requirements

• Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) currently in hand
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• COVID vaccine required
• 3 years of RN experience required, with 2-3 years in specialty preferred; first-time travelers welcome
• Must pass a proctored Dysrhythmia Test onsite on day one (Pass/Fail)
• Must pass a Pass/Fail Sterile Technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on first day of orientation
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide telemetry nursing care within a busy, often fully-occupied 38-bed unit
• Strong emphasis on Bedside Shift Report, Patient Experience, HCAHPS, and core measures
• Unit values team-oriented, self-motivated nurses invested in the facility's mission and values
• Unit-specific orientation consists of 1 shift on unit
• Navy scrub color required
• Holiday coverage follows the permanent staff rotation; holiday RTO will be considered but not guaranteed
• Facility is described as very traveler-friendly
• Candidates who failed a second attempt at the Dysrhythmia or Sterile Technique test are ineligible for 6 months
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-associated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
