Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for a PCU/Stepdown unit position on nights, requiring 2-3 years of critical care stepdown experience and a CA RN license.
Details
- PCU/Stepdown unit providing critical care stepdown monitoring for patients transitioning from the ICU
- 14 beds across 7 rooms with a 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Patient population includes TBI/trauma, major surgery, CEA, and sepsis cases
- Uses Cerner EMR
- Nurses titrate drips including Precedex, dopamine, dobutamine, and levophed
- Manages arterial and CVP pressure lines, as well as trach and stable vented patients
- One nurse aide typically supports all 14 beds
- 12-hour night shifts beginning at 6:45pm, 3 shifts per week
- Self-scheduling with schedules set 2-9 weeks in advance
- Weekend requirement of 4 weekend shifts within a 4-week schedule (Fri/Sat nights)
- No call or standby requirement
- First to float, with floating to Tele or MedSurg units
Requirements
- Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) currently in hand, pending licenses not accepted
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- COVID vaccine required
- 2-3 years of experience in a PCU or ICU stepdown specialty required
- Experience with arterial and CVP pressure lines, titrating pressors, Precedex, and caring for trach and stable vented patients required
- Must be willing to titrate drips
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration

- Close-knit, team-oriented unit valuing self-motivated and collaborative nurses
- Unit/department orientation consists of one shift
- Navy blue scrub dress code
- Holiday coverage expected as part of the rotating staff schedule, though RTO requests will be considered but not guaranteed
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates must not have been directly employed by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and Dignity, within the past year
