Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position requiring telemetry rhythm interpretation skills and a WV or compact license.

Details

• Acute care Level 2 trauma hospital setting
• Float pool role covering Med/Surg and Telemetry units including 6N, 7N, 4N, 5S, 6S, and Critical Care
• Patient ratios typically 1:5-6, occasionally up to 1:7 depending on acuity
• Common diagnoses include CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, ortho, and oncology
• Phillips telemetry monitors used; RNs must read and interpret cardiac strips
• CPAP and BiPap present on units; respiratory therapy manages respiratory equipment
• No drip titration required on this unit
• 12-hour shifts rotating between 7a-7p and 7p-7a
• Every-other-weekend requirement (Sat/Sun) for both day and night shifts
• Holiday rotation required alongside permanent staff
• Report to the clinical coordinator's office for unit assignment prior to shift start
• Uses EPIC EMR

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Must pass a cardiac rhythm exam demonstrating strip interpretation skills
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
• Unexpired driver's license copy required for consideration

Additional Information

• Will be assigned a 'parent unit' but may float to any of the six included units based on need
• Only assigned basic telemetry patients within scope of practice while floating
• Charge nurse available on every unit; night charge nurse takes patient assignments while day charge does not
• CNAs are utilized on all units to support patient care
• Receives 1-2 shifts of unit-specific orientation with a preceptor
• Scrub color requirement is royal blue
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify for travel assignment
• Candidates who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Former permanent staff are not eligible to return as travelers at this facility
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one year without taking a required 2-year break
