Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg/Tele Float Pool position requiring telemetry strip interpretation and ACLS/BLS certification.

Details

• Float pool role covering MedSurg/Tele units in an acute care, Trauma Level 2 hospital setting
• Primarily floats to 6N (36 beds) and 7N (29 beds), with occasional floats to 4N (36 beds), 5S (36 beds), 6S (36 beds), and Critical Care (20 beds)
• Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:5-6, occasionally up to 1:7 depending on acuity
• Common diagnoses include CHF, cardiac cath, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, ortho, and oncology
• Uses EPIC EMR
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a
• Every-other-weekend requirement (Sat/Sun)
• Holiday coverage required per facility rotation schedule
• 48-hour per week guaranteed schedule
• No drip titration required, but must read and interpret telemetry strips (Phillips monitors)
• CPAP/BiPap on unit managed by Respiratory Therapy
• CNAs available on all units
• Charge nurse present on every unit; night charge takes patient assignment
• Assignments determined via report to clinical coordinator's office before shift start; RNs may float to any of the 6 units but typically assigned a parent unit

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Must pass a cardiac rhythm exam demonstrating telemetry strip interpretation skills
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
• Unexpired driver's license copy required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across multiple medsurg/telemetry units within scope of practice
• Receive 1-2 shifts of orientation with a preceptor
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility (no local candidates accepted)
• Former WVU Medicine travelers must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year before requiring a 2-year break
• 2 shift cancellation allowance per 13-week contract
