Description
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Neuro Stepdown position requiring ACLS, BLS, NIHSS certifications and Epic experience.
Details
- 12-bed Stepdown unit utilizing critical care and neuroscience principles at the Intermediate level
- Patient population includes transfers from the Neuro ICU with neuro trauma, subarachnoid, intraventricular, or intracerebral hemorrhage
- Also cares for ENT cancer patients post tumor resection and flap reconstruction, post-operative spine patients, and a wide range of neurological conditions
- Patient ratio of 1:3
- Night shift, 4x12 hours (19:00-7:00)
- 13-week assignment with every other weekend and every other holiday required
- Must work 2 of the 3 winter holidays
- Must adhere to facility float policy
- Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active VA or compact RN license required (pending license accepted if in-hand by the Wednesday before start)
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BSN preferred
- Epic charting system experience required
- Skilled in neurological and psychiatric care including aneurysm repair, craniotomy, CVA, intracranial bleeds, and lumbar drains
- Experience with post-TPA care, pre/post neurosurgery, seizure disorders, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury preferred
- IV therapy/phlebotomy skills including arterial line management, blood product administration, and PICC line management
- Respiratory management skills including BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy care, and oxygen administration
- Experience with feeding tube care, heparin protocols, cardiac and vasoactive drip management (no titration), and PCA
- Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management skills
- Knowledge of isolation precautions/PPE and IV insulin protocols
- Experience with EVD and lumbar drain management preferred
- Surgical drain and TR Band experience preferred
Additional Information
- Provide stepdown-level nursing care to neurological, neurosurgical, and post-surgical patients
- Float within scope of practice as needed per facility policy
- Up to 40 hours of RTO may be approved per 13-week contract, must be disclosed at time of consideration
- Previous permanent staff or internal/external travelers must have a 1-year separation plus leadership approval before returning
- External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days and are not eligible to return once this threshold is reached
- First-time travelers are not considered for this role
