Description
American Traveler is hiring a Neuro Med/Surg RN for a night shift position requiring NIHSS certification and recent Epic experience.
Details
- 20-bed Neuro Med/Surg unit with 14 floor beds
- Patient ratios of 1:5-6 for floor patients
- Patient population includes neurosciences, DBS, stroke, seizures, surgical/post-op spine, and neurological disorders
- Uses Epic EMR
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p-730am
- Weekend night rotation: Friday/Saturday/Sunday or Saturday/Sunday/Monday
- Charge nurse available 24/7
- Nurse aides on unit with 1:7-10 ratios
- Telemetry present on unit, but RNs are not required to read strips (verification documented in Epic)
- RNs not required to manage vents; RT available 24/7 for floor vents
- Titration only performed per physician order in a step-down setting
- Floating required, first priority to 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10E, then hospital-wide if needed
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certification required, with NIHSS in hand at time of consideration
- ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Strong overall neuro nursing experience required
- Proficiency and frequency with G-tubes required
- Recent Epic EMR experience required
Additional Information
- Provide direct patient care to neuroscience and post-surgical spine patients on a 20-bed unit
- One shift of unit-specific orientation provided
- Holiday rotation coverage expected
- Scrub colors limited to any combination of white and royal blue
- Three shifts in a row may be allowed but is not guaranteed; flexibility required
- Candidates must disclose any background check hits at the time of consideration
- Local candidates not accepted; radius rule of 50 miles for this facility
- Previous WVU Medicine travelers must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within WVU Medicine for longer than one year without a 2-year break (cumulative experience applies)
