Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring at least 1 year of recent Med/Surg experience and WI or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit on the 4th floor with 30 beds
• Patient population includes post-op ortho, thyroidectomy, appendectomy, and chole patients, as well as medical patients with HTN, HF, pneumonia, COPD, AMS, TIA, DM, sepsis, UTI, and AKI
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 4-6 on days and 5-6 (occasionally up to 7) at night
• 12-hour night shifts, 7:00pm-7:30am, with a 30-minute unpaid break
• Every weekend coverage required (Friday/Saturday/Sunday), though frequency may vary (every other, every third, or none)
• Holiday coverage required: 2 of 3 winter holidays, and every other holiday otherwise
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating required to like units, including as a CNA to IMC, ICU, or ED
• Charge RN takes an assignment, sometimes full and sometimes modified
• CNA support with a 1:10 ratio
• Central tele monitoring is used, but RNs are not required to interpret strips; tele techs are available off-unit
• RT equipment includes CPAP (home settings) at night and rare BiPAP use
• Titratable drips are rare, but may include Heparin and PCAs
• Uses Cerner EMR, currently transitioning to Epic

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
• BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg experience required
• 2 professional references required: 1 from a supervisor and 1 from a peer or supervisor

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a busy acute Med/Surg unit with a diverse post-surgical and medical patient population
• Unit-specific orientation is 3 days for agency staff, including CBT training on the first day with shadowing opportunities if completed early
• Navy blue scrubs required
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• Candidates with more experience are preferred, though first-time travelers may be considered
• Former Marshfield employees must have an end date at least 6 months prior to submission
• Local candidates within 80 miles of the facility may be considered at a reduced rate
