Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring a CA RN license and at least 2 years of ICU experience.

Details

• Small 8-bed ICU in an acute care hospital with Trauma Level 3 designation
• Average census of 3-4 patients with 1:1-2 nurse-to-patient ratios
• Common diagnoses include sepsis, medical-surgical cases, DKA, CHF, and COPD
• Cardiac cath patients are transferred out as the facility lacks a cath lab
• Most patients are borderline stepdown level of care
• RNs required to titrate drips including Levophed, heparin, insulin, and dopamine
• Charge nurse takes a patient assignment
• No nurse aides on the unit, but a unit clerk is available
• Hospitalist in house 24/7 with tele-intensivist support also available 24/7
• Respiratory therapist in ICU 24/7 and takes a patient assignment
• RT equipment includes Via and Hamilton ventilators
• Phillips telemetry monitors with central monitoring tech support
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a, with self-scheduling to some degree
• Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 4 shifts in 4 weeks
• Holiday coverage follows permanent staff rotation
• On-call is optional, not required
• Floating would rarely occur, but if needed would be to med-surg (1:5 ratio), peds (1:4, if qualified), or ER (if qualified)
• Uses Cerner EMR

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certification required
• Dysrhythmia certification through AHA required (online course and exam accepted)
• PALS and TNCC certifications preferred
• 2-5 years of ICU specialty experience required
• Experience working in a smaller ICU setting required
• Cerner EMR experience preferred
• Must provide a copy of driver's license for consideration

• Strong team player mentality required to fit into unit dynamics
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Unit-specific orientation consists of 2-3 shifts
• First-time travelers will be considered for this position
