Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring BLS certification and strong neuro experience in a long-term antibiotics unit.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit specializing in long-term antibiotics treatment
• 22-bed unit with private rooms
• Patient ratios range from 1:5 to 1:6
• Common diagnoses include infections such as endocarditis, abscesses, septic arthritis, sepsis, osteomyelitis, and diabetic foot infections
• Significant patient population with underlying substance use histories
• Charge nurses may carry 2-4 patients at times
• CAs support with vital signs, fingersticks, and ADLs at ratios between 1:7 and 1:22
• Cardiac monitoring via portable telemetry packs; no cardiac monitor techs on unit
• Nurses are not required to read or interpret telemetry strips
• Drip titration performed only per physician orders
• Uses EPIC charting system
• 12-hour night shifts (7p-730a)
• Weekends and holidays as scheduled

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Strong overall neuro experience required
• Comfort working with patients who may be actively using or withdrawing from substances
• Ability to manage challenging or escalating patient behaviors related to substance use

Additional Information

• Orientation includes 1-2 shifts with a preceptor plus standard job-specific and department orientation documentation
• POCT validations included in orientation process
• First-time travelers may be considered
• Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers cannot work within WVU Medicine for longer than a year cumulative before requiring a 2-year break
• Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to qualify as travelers
• All candidates interview directly with the unit manager
