Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring 2 years of experience and ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

• Adult/Geriatric Med/Surg unit in a short-term acute care hospital
• Patient ratios of 1:5/6
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts from 17:00 to 5:30
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital
• Uses Cerner charting system
• Common conditions include thoracentesis, COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CVA, hypoxia, electrolyte imbalances, hypertension, small bowel obstruction, altered mental status, and renal failure

Requirements

• Active IN or Compact RN license required in hand prior to start
• Current certifications in ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required (may screen at 1.5 years)
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Cerner charting experience preferred
• Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, central line and peripheral line care, blood product administration, and PICC line management
• Respiratory skills including BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube care, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and oxygen administration
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and telemetry remote monitoring
• Experience managing renal failure, feeding tubes, heparin protocols, PCA, colostomy/ileostomy care, and insulin administration
• Nursing degree from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE at time of graduation
• 2 supervisor references required

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to adult and geriatric Med/Surg patients requiring telemetry monitoring
• Red scrub top with black pants required
• Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
• Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO can be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates residing in Indiana are not accepted for this position
• Former permanent or PRN employees of the health system must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Current or past travelers with 12 months of accrued travel employment within the health system must take a consecutive break to reset eligibility (90 days for out-of-state residents, 180 days for in-state residents)
