Description

American Traveler is hiring a Labor & Delivery RN for a night shift assignment at a small community hospital, requiring 2 years of L&D experience and willingness to float to Med Surg.

Details

• Small community hospital with 30-40 births per year
• Labor and Delivery unit with floating to Med Surg required
• L&D patient ratio of 1:2 and Med Surg ratio of 2:3-5 when floating
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 19:00-07:00
• Every other weekend required
• Call requirements apply

Requirements

• Active RN license (Standard or Compact) required
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, FHM, NRP, and STABLE
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience in Labor and Delivery required
• 2 years of relevant references required
• Skills in IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, venous blood draws, and central line maintenance required
• Experience with infusion pumps, drips, and IV monitoring required
• Previous charge experience preferred
• Teaching hospital, community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provide care for low-risk antepartum, mother/baby, and newborn patients in a Level I nursery setting
• Administer medications including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and antihypertensives
• Perform neonatal care in the delivery room including APGAR scoring and neonatal resuscitation
• Provide newborn care including cord care, discharge teaching, and metabolic screening
• Manage antepartum procedures such as NSTs, sterile vaginal exams, and fetal heart monitoring
• Care for high-risk conditions including pre-eclampsia, placenta previa, and preterm labor
• Provide postpartum care including lactation support, fundal checks, and wound assessment
• Manage pain control methods including epidural anesthesia and PCA pumps
• Perform fetal monitoring including recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns and IUPC placement
• Staff who have previously worked at this facility must have been gone for at least 1 year to return as a traveler
• First-time travelers are not considered for this position
