Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Stepdown & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit position requiring NIHSS certification and strong neuro experience.

Details

• Acute care setting on a 31-bed Neuro Stepdown & EMU (25 Stepdown, 6 EMU)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3 on Stepdown and 1:5-6 on the EMU floor
• Patient population includes higher acuity neuroscience cases such as strokes, seizures, craniotomies, and EMU monitoring
• Telemetry monitoring present on unit, though RNs are not required to read strips
• RT support available 24/7 for floor vents, managed by RT and physician
• Charge nurse coverage available 24/7 with nurse aide support at a 1:8-9 ratio
• Night shift schedule of 3x12hr shifts (7p-7:30a), with possible 3 shifts in a row
• Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 2 weekend shifts per schedule
• Holiday rotation required
• Possible floating to other units (7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10W)
• Uses EPIC EMR

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• BLS and NIHSS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Strong overall neuro nursing experience required, including history of caring for stroke patients and implementing NIH Stroke Scale
• NIHSS certification must be in hand at time of consideration
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Stepdown unit qualification required

Additional Information

• Provide nursing care to higher acuity neuroscience patients including stroke, seizure, craniotomy, and EMU cases
• EVD and TPA patients are primarily managed by permanent staff
• Titration of drips performed only per physician orders
• Unit-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts
• Royal blue scrub color required
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facility to qualify for travel rate
• Candidates previously employed permanently or as travelers at this health system must have a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within the health system for more than a year without taking a 2-year break
• Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 required, with medical or religious exemption process available
• First-time travelers may be considered for this position
