History enthusiasts should take the self-guided Freedom Summer Trail driving tour, which includes 15 sites related to the civil rights movement and the Freedom Summer of 1964, aimed to register African American voters in the state. The Mississippi Armed Forces Museum and the African American Military History Museum feature even more of the region's history.
