Opportunity:

RN - MedSurg

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour shifts with 7:00 PM or 7:00 AM start times, three shifts per week
• Self-scheduling with priority to fill gaps in the schedule; block scheduling considered to meet unit needs
• Every other to every third weekend requirement
• Occasional holiday requirement
• 2 on-call/standby shifts required per contract
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 without CNA support or 1:3 with CNA support
• 13-bed Medical Surgical unit on Floor 2
• Common diagnoses include post-orthopedic surgeries, pneumonia, COPD, CHF, general surgical procedures (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, mastectomies), A-fib with RVR, and MI/rule-out chest pain
• Pediatric patients may include RSV, pneumonia, and respiratory cases
• Required to titrate drips including insulin, Cardizem, and Heparin
• Must be able to read basic telemetry; tele box and virtual monitor tech available on unit
• RT equipment includes nasal cannula, high flow oxygen, CPAP, and BiPAP
• CNA available on unit for vital signs, ADLs, foley removal, and sterile procedure setup
• Charge nurse serves as house-wide resource supervisor covering Medical Surgical and L&D
• Floating to ER for task assignments is rare; primarily stationed on unit
• 1-2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
• Charting system: EPIC
• Professional scrubs of any color required
• Minimum 1 year of experience required; first-time travelers accepted
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS

This acute care facility features a dedicated Medical Surgical unit providing comprehensive care for a diverse patient population, including post-surgical and general medical patients. The unit operates with a supportive team structure including CNA support, a house-wide charge nurse, and virtual telemetry monitoring. The facility utilizes EPIC as its electronic charting system and maintains a well-equipped environment to support a wide range of medical and surgical patient needs.
