Opportunity:

RN - ICU Float Pool

Job Details:

• 12-hour shifts available days (7:00 AM–7:30 PM) or nights (7:00 PM–7:30 PM)
• Schedule is set 4 weeks in advance and may be adjusted two weeks in advance based on hospital needs
• 4 weekend shifts (Saturday and Sunday) required per 4-week period
• Holiday shifts required based on unit needs
• No on-call requirement; standby response time is 30 minutes if placed on standby due to low census
• Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment or 3 shifts for assignments less than 13 weeks
• Float amongst all ICU areas including Tower 2, Tower 4, and 4 Neuro, as well as MedSurg/Tele units and sister campuses
• Tower 2 cares for medical, surgical, and trauma patients with a 1:2 ratio
• Tower 4 is a cardiothoracic ICU specializing in lung transplants and ECMO with a 1:2 ratio
• 4 Neuro is a neuro-specific ICU with a 1:2 ratio; Tele ratio is 1:4
• Must be willing and able to float without refusal; floating expectations will be documented during prescreening
• Must have a minimum of 2 years ICU experience
• Level 1 trauma center experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred due to complexity and high acuity of patients
• Must be competent in all critical drips and all types of respiratory support including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow
• Must be proficient with GE telemetry equipment and able to read a telemetry strip
• Charting system: Cerner
• Must pass Advanced Dysrhythmia Exam with a score of 80% or higher within 2 attempts prior to contract start
• Must pass Day 1 SIMs Lab (pass/fail) covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; maintaining sterile field is critical
• SIMs Lab will also include educational components for lifts, restraints, and wound care
• All bedside reports completed at bedside; quality 2-person skin assessment must be completed within the first 4 hours of each shift
• Assignment received 30–60 minutes in advance via GroupMe texting service or phone call
• Must update department code for each unit when clocking in and be on the unit by 7:00 AM or 7:00 PM for shift huddle
• 2 shifts of orientation provided; a third shift available only if needed
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), NIHSS preferred but not required

This is a Level 1 trauma center and teaching hospital known for its high-acuity patient population and complex care environment. The facility operates multiple ICU areas including medical, surgical, trauma, cardiothoracic, and neuro-specific units, as well as telemetry and MedSurg floors. The organization supports advanced procedures including lung transplants and ECMO, and maintains multiple campuses to serve a broad regional patient base.
